The purpose of this study was to determine if there was a significance relationship between the use of social media and the negative perception of lawyers. For this study a correlational study was used. Participants involved in this study were selected through convenience sampling. There were 119 participants, all undergraduates from Houston Baptist University. The sample was ethnically diverse and it involved more than 75% females, more than 75% of the age 17-21, and more than 50% Protestant. The measures used in this study were a basic demographics questionnaire, the Twitter and Facebook Usage Scale, and the Perception of Lawyer-Client Interaction Scale. It was hypothesized that there would be a significant relationship between the usage of social media and the negative perception of lawyers, age and the negative perception of lawyers, ethnicity and the negative perception of lawyers, gender and the negative perception of lawyers, and personal exposure with lawyers and the perception of lawyers. Spearman’s rho analysis concluded that there is indeed a significant relationship between the usage of Facebook and the negative perception of lawyers. Analysis indicated that there was no significant relationship found between age, ethnicity, personal exposure to lawyers, and gender with the negative perception of lawyers. Literature, findings, and potential further research are further discussed throughout the paper.
