Euclidean Promenades; 1955  Rene Magritte

This LibGuide is meant to help you get started using the Moody Library resources for art.  We have a variety of materials available including databases, videos, and of course books

All library books, recordings and videos can be located in the library catalog the same way you would locate books: by author, title, subject or keyword.  You can also use keyword searching via either HCU OneSearch or the classic keyword search

Books

Reference books on art can be used in the library only, however, most books can be checked out.  Books on art will call have call numbers that begin with "N".  Books on photography however begin with "TR".  We also have a large number of Ebooks and a few art related videos and DVDs.

We use the Library of Congress system for locating books.  The letters and numbers you see on the spine of books are called “call numbers” and they organize the books on the shelves by subject.  Here’s some basics to help:

N = visual arts (N5300-N7418 for art history)

NA = architecture

NB = sculpture

NC = drawing, design, illustration

ND = painting

NE = print media

NK = decorative arts

NX = arts in general

TR = photography

Videos

DVDs are kept at the circulation desk and have a check period of 1 week.

VHS tapes can be checked out for 3 weeks, just like books.
