General guidelines

Materials in the Johnson papers do not circulate and are for in-house use only.

Many of the materials contained in the Johnson Papers are under copyright and must be used in accordance with the provisions of Title 17 of the U.S. Code. In order to reuse the material, the researcher must seek permission from the copyright owner for use of the materials beyond fair use or other statutory exemptions. It is the responsibility of the researcher to determine the copyright status.

Box 3 Books, pre-publication, correspondence
Correspondence with American Science Affiliation and on science education. Reviews, ads, and publicity on certain books. Early drafts of The Wedge of Truth along with pre-publication correspondence, and supporting articles. Background materials for an unwritten book on Tolerance and Intolerance.
Box 4 Books, pre-publication, correspondence
Fan letters. Materials related to Darwin On Trial including: correspondence, reviews, ads, background articles and an early draft of the book.
Box 5 Writings and interviews
Copies of Johnson’s articles (note: Some of these are indexed in ATLA but not available on databases accessed at HCU.) Files 51-70 contain articles on Johnson and interviews with him.
Box 6 Law materials
Materials relating to his career as a law professor including correspondence and promotions. Materials relating to his legal interests such as religious, morality and natural law.
Box 7 Law writings and correspondence
Materials related to legal issues, including clippings and correspondence. Files 14-38 contain copies of Johnson’s writings.
Box 8 AIDS writings, remainder of travel files
Correspondence and articles on AIDS by Johnson and others. Files relating to various speaking engagements for the years 2004-2008
Box 9 General articles on Intelligent design and evolution
Materials pertaining to education and evolution, some involving academic freedom issues and legal cases. Materials related to science and society, evolution and intelligent design. Box includes some material written by Johnson.
Box 10 General articles on Intelligent design and evolution
Primarily articles with other materials. Since most of the material in this box was shipped in very large, broad cardboard Princeton files, they have been slightly rearranged for better organization and access.
Box 11 Lectures and miscellaneous articles
Lectures and various collected articles.

Materials related to various speaking engage
