Making Sense of Library Research

These are tips and methods of research as promoted by Dean Riley.

Getting Started

Develop a general research plan. KateTurabian believes that good researchers ask the following questions:

  1. Conceptual: What should we think?
  2. Practical: What should we do?
  3. Applied: What must we understand before we know what to do?

Next, try turning your thesis statement into a question. If you don't have a good understanding of your topic, try searching Credo Reference.

Credo Reference is a great place to get a brief synopis of a term or concept. Be sure to try its Visual Concept map to get a visualize overview of the connections between concepts.
