Using Gale E-books

Viewing eBook Articles

In Gale Virtual Resource Library, the documents you retrieve from your search results or your Saved Articles list are individual articles from eBooks.

View As: TEXT or PDF

Initially the article will be displayed as TEXT, but you may switch to PDF view.

TEXT

  • Displays the text of the article -- along with any images and sidebars -- as one continuous page
  • Use this view when you want to use article tools, such as print, e-mail, listen, search within, etc.
  • Page numbers appear to the right and correspond to the print page numbers
  • Sidebar text, where available, will be displayed embedded within the text and clearly marked as such.
Tip: The shaded area above the article text in the TEXT view displays brief citation information. Click the publication title to go to the eBook's Table of Contents page. Where available, click the author name to find all articles in the database written by that person. The publisher's logo is also an active link to their website.

PDF

  • Displays the article as it appears in the corresponding print publication using a built-in PDF viewer
  • Use this view when you want to browse and read pages like in a book
  • Article tools are not available in this view; toggle to the TEXT view to use article tools

The Gale Document Number

Each eBook article is assigned a unique identifier, which appears toward the bottom of the screen, below the article text. This number can be used in Advanced Search to return directly to this document by selecting the Document Number index.
