How to Write an Annotated Bibliography

How the Library Can Help You

The library probably seems like a large confusing building, including its website! We have a lot of resources and services, so it is easy for them to get all jumbled up. Many of the websites are similar, but different. Many are afraid to ask for help because they don't want to appear ignorant. Nonsense! In a place of education, if you don't ask, then you don't learn! There is no such thing as a silly question in a library. We take all of our students and their questions seriously.

Libraries have a lot of terms and services that may be confusing so let's help you get started on a good foot.

  • Homepage: https://hc.edu.library.
  • Can't figure out how to do something at HCU? Try HCU Answers! We have over 800 questions covering a wide range of topics to help get you the information you need now. Very mobile-friendly! If you don't find what you need, please ask!
  • Finding articles:
    • a) Use the OneSearch box on the home page.
      • OneSearch literally searches almost everything we have: books, E-books, and journal articles. Results can be quite large sometimes so use the filters on the left side to narrow things down (just like Amazon).
    • b) Search by specific databases. Results will often be much smaller and easier to work with. You can still use filter to help.
    • c. If you know a specific journal title, you can browse them or search only specific journals exclusively.
  • Finding books:
  • Is there something we don't have that you need? We can place an interlibrary loan for any book or journal article that we do not have and it costs you nothing (zero, nada, zilch). It really is free. Books can be picked up at the front desk. Articles are emailed with 24-72 hours.
  • Need a place to jumpstart your thinking? Try our subject guides, a.k.a., LibGuides. We have number of them designed by academic discipline, topics, or even classes in some cases. The LibGuides try to keep everyone about that subject in one place. It's available 24/7/
  • Be sure to click the Contact the Library button to your left. You an reach us by phone, email, chat, and even SMS text messaging!
  • Our librarians, staff, and student workers are friendly and ready to help. No one will laugh at your questions.
