Moody Library Access Policies

Moody Library serves the research, teaching, and scholarly activities of Houston Baptist University students, faculty, and staff.  In order to maximize the availability of study space and library materials for these primary users, the following is the access policy of Moody Library:

  • Library study space is restricted to HBU students, faculty, and staff.  Visitors may not use the building for study purposes.
  • HBU students, faculty, and staff must present a current HBU ID to enter the building.
  • HBU alumni must present an HBU alumni card or a card issued by the library or other proof of graduation,  and current photo ID for entrance.
  • Holders of valid TexShare cards from Texas academic or public libraries must present the TexShare card and a current photo ID for entrance.
  • Family members of HBU students, faculty, or staff may be admitted to the library only when accompanied by an HBU student, faculty, or staff ID holder. Spouses of HBU faculty or staff members may apply for a spouse card, which will give them access to the building.
  • Other categories of scholarly researchers may be admitted on a case-by-case basis as approved by the Library Director or the Librarian in charge.
  • No visitors are allowed entrance into Moody Library after 8 p.m. on any night.
  • Children under 16 are allowed in the Library only if accompanied by an HBU student, faculty, or staff member at all times.  Visitors are not allowed to bring children into the library.
  • The Library reserves the right to refuse to grant access or borrowing privileges to any person who fails to observe Library policies and regulations.

Additional Library Rules

  • Checking out library materials requires a valid HBU ID, TexShare card, or alumni identification.
  • All materials must be checked out by 15 minutes before closing time
  • Children under 16 are allowed in the library only if accompanied by an HBU student, faculty, or staff member at all times.
  • Quiet cell phone use in the library that is considerate of others is permitted EXCEPT in designated quiet areas and stairways near quiet areas.  All cell ringers should be placed on vibrate or quiet mode.
  • Food & drink is permitted in the library on a limited basis.  Anyone wishing to partake of meal-type food should use the Java City area.
  • Staff and users should respect the rights of others to study in peace and should refrain from making excessive noise in study areas.
  • The Ragland Reading Room on the second floor is designated as a quiet study area.
