About the Library

Vision and Mission Statements

Academic libraries are the heartbeat of lifelong learning, a sanctuary where every individual becomes a researcher, whether they realize it or not. Just as our DNA sustains our biological existence, the social information we gather shapes our lives. Every question we ask, every choice we make—what to buy, where to live, how to play—requires research. We are all seekers of knowledge, navigating a world rich with information. At Moody Library, we embrace this journey, empowering you with the skills to sift through the noise and find clarity. Our mission is to equip you not just for exams, but for life. The ability to research effectively transforms you into a better student, a more informed employee, and a conscientious citizen. In this process, we are not just accumulating facts; we are being molded into the image of the Creator, learning to serve Him and each other with wisdom and purpose.

Library Vision Statement

Given HCU’s central confession that “Jesus Christ is Lord,” William L. Moody Library seeks to help all students by endowing them with critical research skills with a high degree of satisfaction so their current research can springboard and become “useful vessels” to empower their future organizations, their lives, and to honor Christ (II Timothy 2:21-22; Isaiah 64:8; Colossians 1:9-15).

Library Mission Statement

The mission of William L, Moody Library is to provide the information resources, services, and physical spaces that support the educational and research mission of Houston Christian University, encourage learning, and promote spiritual and intellectual growth.

Library Values

  • Research As Stewardship:
    • Students need to be good stewards of information. That includes learning the best ways to search for needed information, how to organize it, and giving proper citations.
    • Giving each scholarly research project your best effort using the gifts God has given.
    • Corroborating information to avoid giving misinformation (mistaken information).
    • Avoiding all temptations to give deliberately false or misleading information.
    • Emphasize responsible use of information resources as good stewardship.
    • Show how sharing knowledge serves others in the academic community.
  • See Truth-Seeking As a Sacred Work
    • Frame careful research as participating in God's truth-revealing work.
    • Emphasize how intellectual honesty (proper citations) reflects Christian integrity.
    • Understand how acquiring knowledge can deepen our understanding of God's creation.
