Professor: Dr. Kylee J. Short

Children everywhere in the United States participate in sport in their schools, communities, neighborhoods, and many other places. Within sport, especially organized sport, feedback is an important mechanism and often affects perceptions of ability and levels of intrinsic motivation within children. The purpose of this research is to look into a possible relationship between intrinsic motivation levels and social development behaviors in sport. Such relationship could be used to identify correlations between the two variables and then allow for manipulation in order to produce optimal results of positive social development. Data will be collected in the form of surveys and/or questionnaires similar to the Intrinsic Motivation Inventory test using opinions and subjective measures, so this research is only the beginning in the discovery of a possible relationship between intrinsic motivation levels and social behaviors in children and adolescents.
