ABSTRACT:

Sports psychology is an area that has involved and one of the issues addressed is fear of failure among athletes.  Athletes may suffer from fear of failure and in turn may not compete the way they were expected to. The current study evaluates the relationship between athlete's perception of their athletic performance and fear of failure. The Performance Failure Appraisal Inventory was used to assess athlete's fear of failure. The study comprised a convenience sample of N= 100 collegiate athletes that participated. Athletes were asked to take the questionnaire while in the athletic training room. The sports included are football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, track & field, cross country, and golf.  The Spearman's Ro will be used in order to analyze the data collected from the sample. A negative correlation is expected to form as the data is analyzed. It is expected that athletes who have more fear of failure will have a decrease in their perception of their performance. Limitations and further research that can be conducted is broadened in the discussion section.
